This past Wednesday Dr. Sokolow went on another bike tour with his group!

This time they toured along the coastal bluffs trail of Wilder Ranch State Park and around the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, where real whale skeletons are mounted outdoors. Visitors can get up close to appreciate the size of the blue whale and grey whale! Dr. Sokolow "shook hands" with the blue whale skeleton on display:

They ended the ride with a tasty lunch at a Brazilian restaurant in Santa Cruz! It was a great day for a fun adventure!

Last weekend, Dr. Sokolow took a wilderness first aid course on the UC Santa Cruz campus given by the Wilderness Medicine Institute of "NOLS" (National Outdoor Leadership School).  The course is given in many venues around the country throughout the year to provide training for people who want to know how to take care of medical emergencies that may arise while in the great outdoors, far from emergency services. It was raining and hailing, so the group had some realistic practice sessions outdoors in the weather, in addition to the classroom!  Dr. Sokolow is now certified in wilderness first aid!

On Feb 25, Dr. Sokolow led a group of bike riders along a coastal tour of the Santa Cruz area! They went through the historic farmhouse of Wilder Ranch and continued to the Natural Bridges State Beach where the Monarch butterflies come to breed annually! They rode along the coastal trail of West Cliff Drive where the surfers ride the waves, to the municipal wharf to view the resting sea lions and past the Boardwalk amusement park. After they reached the Arana Gulch open space preserve, they headed back to downtown Santa Cruz for lunch at a gourmet burrito restaurant!
